Dance Tips and Safe practice

Safe dance practice is important to all dancers of any age or ability.

  • It is essential to warm-up and cool down effectively for each lesson – do not start a lesson without warming up or stop a lesson without cooling down.
  • Use a mat for these classes.
  • Do not attempt flips, headstands, forward rolls or any other new moves without a supervising adult.
  • Do not attempt the Power Moves class alone. This lesson needs a mat for support.
  • Eat well and stay hydrated before, during and after class. Drink plenty of water before and after class, as well as small sips throughout class.
  • Get enough rest and avoid overtraining - let your body rest and recover. Resting promotes recovery, reducing the risk of overtraining, stress and fatigue. Take at least one day off for you to rest your body and mind. A healthy and happy dancer comes from a balanced workload and rest.
  • Always wear proper footwear such as trainers and avoid bare feet or socks. Wear dance attire, suitable for flexible movement.
  • Make sure you have enough space and the area you are using is clear of objects and obstacles.
  • Please dance at your own level and experience. Listen to your body. Every dancer will progress at his or her own pace.
  • The demos are to inspire learning dance - do not attempt to copy a demo in any circumstances.

Harry

Harry is celebrated at Synergy! He can be seen leading a Synergy class at Guildford Spectrum on a Strictly Come Dancing VT, when they came to visit one of our classes in December 2021. He inspires his students, and his professional and patient style of teaching has led complete beginners to transform to accomplished breakdance and street dancers. He has also encouraged many more boys to take part in our classes from children just starting out with dance to teenagers and young people.

“It’s amazing to see kids improve in confidence and ability, as well as make friends and find a love for dance! I remember how inspired I used to be by my brilliant teachers, and I wish to pass that on to the children I teach”.

Harry has been breakdancing for 11 years and this has led to professional tours, shows and concerts at large venues including the Manchester Arena. Harry’s training includes GSA and specialist breakdance teaching.
